This is a question I received here on the Dog Business Blogger a few weeks ago. I thought I would take a few minutes and give you my take on the question.
Hello, I am researching for a second career at age 50. I have no experience in dog training only a true love for dogs. What area of dog training is foreseen as having the most demand in the future?
I feel that the number one area of dog training has been and will continue to be obedience and behavior training for mans best friend, our loyal family dog. Dogs have become an important family member to many households around the country. Because of this popularity there will always be a need for obedience dog trainers to help train these barking and jumping additions to the family.
Obedience training will include everything from group obedience classes, private in-home training as well as in kennel board and train programs. Being a knowledgeable trainer will help many new dog owners reach their goals of having a well behaved family pet.
Obedience trainers can actually operate from their homes by conducting classes in the dog owner’s homes and group classes in area parking lots or parks.
There are other areas of dog training including detection dogs for law enforcement that can create a substantial income. These types of training require more training and an actual training facility where these dogs can be housed and trained.
If I could only do one type of training it would most certainly be obedience and behavior training. Obedience trainers will be here forever!
